DUI/ILLEGAL POSSESSION EDUCATION - JUVENILE
Under Virginia's "Use and Lose" statutes, a juvenile offender who is convicted of possession of alcohol and/or a driving under the influence offense may lose his/her motor vehicle operator's (driver's) license if he/she has one. If he/she is under age 16 and has not yet obtained a driver's license a judge may order that the license be postponed past the 16th birthday. ASAP program participation may allow a juvenile offender to keep the license, receive a restricted license, or obtain a license at the usual age (16) upon a guilty determination judges usually give adolescent offenders an option of loss of license, jail, and/or a fine, or participation in the eight to ten week adolescent education program. Attendance at one AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting is part of the required course.
